The Beginning

A blank canvas
at seventy

Inspired by Professor Yoram Yovell's lecture on preserving cognitive vitality, Ron Levy picked up a pencil for the first time — secretly tracing diagonal lines on plain paper. He had never sketched, never held a brush.

As a musician who started studying cello at eight, he sought something entirely foreign. Within weeks he was painting on canvas — trees, clouds, water, reflections. Several hours every day.

About Ron Levy

My story,
not a biography

I began painting during the COVID-19 pandemic, at a relatively late stage in life, inspired by Professor Yoram Yovell's televised lecture on maintaining brain vitality and preventing cognitive decline.

As a musician who had started studying the cello at eight, I sought an area completely unfamiliar. I had never doodled with a pencil or held a paintbrush. I began cautiously — secretly drawing straight and diagonal lines on plain paper.

The transition from sketching to painting was swift. With online tutorials I taught myself acrylics on canvas — trees, clouds, water, reflections. Several hours each day, gaining immense joy from the process. Since then I have remained a self-taught painter, committed to daily practice with passion and deep gratitude to Professor Yovell for bringing new meaning to my life.
